Question Someone please help me understand 1 hour damage protection...

Ok, I'm so so so so so confused about what throws someone into 1 hour damage protection and what doesn't... and when it's up..

I'll give a few scenarios and you answer my questions. Please And don't speculate or guess, only answer if you feel certain that you can provide me with clarity..

    Scenario one:

I attack someone at 12:00. I attack them again at 12:15. I attack them again at 12:30. I attack them again 12:45.

Do they get one hour protection? If so, what time is it up?

    Scenario two:

I attack someone at 12:00. I attack them again at 12:20. I attack them again at 12:40. I attack them again 1:00.

Do they get one hour protection? If so, what time is it up?

    Scenario three:

I attack someone at 12:00. I attack them again at 12:25. I attack them again at 12:40. I attack them again at 1:02.

Do they get one hour protection? If so, what time is it up?

If anyone can provide clarity, simple answers without mucking it up with confusion because I'm already obviously so confused, that would be glorious =)

Scenario 1 would give 1 hour protection
    Scenario 2 *might*
Scenario 3 in my experience wouldn't

If someone gets damage protection it will be initiated right away

    The correct answers are this:

Scenario 1: Protection begins at the end of the battle that begun at 12:45. If the battle lasted 5 minutes, then DP lasts until 1:50
Scenario 2: Protection begins at the end of the battle that begun at 1:00. If the battle lasted 5 minutes, then DP lasts until 2:05
Scenario 3: Depends. How long was the battle at 12:00? If it lasted for 2 minutes or more, then they will get DP. If the battle was over in less than 2 minutes, they probably won't get it.

Basically, I once timed it and attacked at 11:49pm one night. My fourth attack began at 12:50. That person got 1hr DP because the first battle took a few minutes. So it technically ended at 11:52 or 11:53.

Curtis, could u plz take a look at this scenario?

    1st end at 0.00
    2nd -------0.15
    3rd -------0.30
    4th -------1.05
    5th -------1.10

Will this force damage protection due to 2nd and 5th attack time gap? If so, then if i want to attack continueously, i have to attack at 16 minute interval, right?

Yes, the 2nd and 5th will conflict.

The way to get around it is easy:
    Wave 1 time: X
    Wave 2 time: Y
    Wave 3 time: Z
    Wave 4 time: X + 1hr + (battle 1 length)
    Wave 5 time: Y + 1hr + (battle 2 length)
    Wave 6 time: Z + 1hr + (wattle 3 length)
    Wave 7 time: Wave 4 + 1hr + (battle 4 length)

These times do not need to be evenly spaced. Z, Y and Z could be 0, 5, 10. As long as you time it so that 1hr + battle length of the wave it conflicts with is added to it.

    In other words:
    - Start your first attack
    - Immediately start a timer when that attack has ended.
    - Now attack in intervals of around 21 minutes and you should be golden

1 hour damage protection isn't all bad though in my opinion. If you want to attack a base and you can see it will take more than 4 waves but less than 9, i sometimes use damage protection to avoid someone ninjaing my efforts. You are the only one who truly knows when the damage protection will end, since when you fling your first 4 attacks as fast as possible you are the only one who knows when your first and last attack ended.

The difference goes somewhat like this:

Non DP attack, 7 waves - total time 2 hours and 6 minutes (+last battle time)
    00h:00m - 00h:21m - 00:42m - 01h:03m - 01h:24m - 01h:45m - 02h:06 looting

DP attack, 7 waves - total time 1 hour and 52 minutes (+last battle time)
(assuming 3 housings, 4 hatcheries, non upgraded, ichis production at 1m:40s, 6 ichis per hatchery = 10 minutes per wave of 30 ichis)
    00h:00m - 00h:10m+1m click time - 00h:21m+1m click time - 00:33+1m click time+5m battle time - 00h:39m DP - 01h:39m DP end - 01h:30m - 01h:40m+1m click time - 01h:52m looting

Sometimes the system seems a little iffy about the times (might be battle durations varying, might be something else who knows), so in a no DP scenario you might want to add a little extra time. Bottom line is you can sometimes use the DP to your own advantage avoiding ninja looters, and sometimes even clean bases faster doing so.

Extra benefit: you can get better monsters out for the attack delayed an hour. Anything but Eye-ras is quite buildable.

Tommy, while your method is not incorrect I find that you and many other people get trapped in the idea that there must be an interval. The more things you need to set a clock to, the more mistakes you make. Of course, due to the fact that there are 3 attacks per hour while avoiding DP, there are 3 things to time. But you are suggesting to time practically every attack. This is not wrong, but I would argue that it is a bit extreme.

Just send 3 attacks, record what time they end. 4th attack starts 1hr after 1st, 5th starts 1hr after 2nd, etc. If you need more than 6 waves, then keep track of when the 4th-6th battles end too.

One thing that was said that is wrong (Tommy) is that the looting battle does not need to be timed at all. Since the looting battle will inevitably give them some form of protection we are assuming it does not matter when you hit them. So the looting wave can occur whenever it is ready. No need to wait for avoiding DP.
